Mission
Protect. Save. Enrich.
In partnership with our gracious and compassionate supporters, our mission is dedicated to protecting, saving and enriching the lives of animals in the communities we serve.
Impact of Legacy Gifts on Our Mission
An Uncertain Future.
All the animals we care for face an uncertain future. It is an undeniable fact.
We can be certain animals in our communities will continue to need lifesaving treatment and care for years, decades and centuries into the future. The past demonstrates it. 2025 will mark the 150th anniversary of our founding in 1875.
Your Legacy Gift Supports Our Mission
You can make the lives of so many animals better by the actions you take.
Legacy gifts:
- Guarantee the availability of crucial funding in the future, to provide protection, lifesaving care and enrichment to vulnerable animals.
- Allow us to prepare for an unknown and uncertain future with confidence.
- Provide us with the flexibility to prioritize future services and programs, which will most effectively help animals in need.
An estate gift is almost always the biggest gift a person will ever make.
It’s easy to make. You simply include the Nebraska Humane Society as a beneficiary in your will or trust, or when making a beneficiary designation on your group or individual life insurance policy, retirement accounts or other financial accounts.
All individuals who notify us that they intend to, or have already made, an estate gift are invited to become a member of the Legacy League for the Animals, a select group of supporters who care deeply for the wellbeing of animals and have shared their gift intentions with us.
Members of the Legacy League for the Animals are forward-thinking, mission-dedicated, values-driven individuals who make plans today for a better tomorrow for all the animals depending on our help in the future.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
